Powerful earthquake strikes Indonesia, thousands injured

Thousands of people were injured in a 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck central Sulawesi, Indonesia, early this morning.

The earthquake, at a depth of 10 km, struck the Poso region and was felt in surrounding areas.

There are no reports of deaths so far.

Otherwise, Indonesia is located on the so-called 'Pacific Ring of Fire', a highly seismically active zone, where different plates in the Earth's crust meet and generate a large number of earthquakes.

Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said there was no tsunami warning.
