VIDEO/ Environmental massacre in the Drino River, Dropull Municipality continues interventions

For several days, a serious situation has been ongoing in the Drino River bed in the Dropull Municipality, where excavators and high-tonnage trucks are interfering and seriously damaging the natural structure of the river.
Residents and local sources denounce how IMT and IKMT are in complete silence, while activity on the ground continues, causing significant environmental degradation of the Drini Riverbed, despite concerns raised earlier.
The situation becomes even more worrying considering that just a few days ago the Director General of the State Police,
Mr. Skender Hitaj, had emphasized the priority of protecting the environment and stopping violations in the country's rivers.
However, on the ground, according to allegations, the situation remains unchanged.
The ongoing interventions in the Drino River bed are raising serious concerns about the lack of institutional control and the risk of irreparable damage to the river ecosystem.
So far, there has been no detailed official response clarifying the legality of the works or the relevant permits for these interventions.
We call on the Gjirokastra Prosecutor's Office to immediately launch investigations into this suspected case of environmental massacre, as well as to verify institutional and legal responsibilities for interventions in the Drino Riverbed.
The Drino River case is seen as part of broader concerns for river protection in Albania, where environmental damage is reported increasingly frequently and requires immediate institutional intervention.
