Albanian gang dismantled in Italy, 12 people arrested and 423 kg of narcotics seized

A police operation in Italy has dismantled an Albanian criminal organization dedicated to trafficking cocaine, marijuana and heroin, with branches in Abruzzo, Lombardy and Albania.
A wide-ranging anti-drug operation carried out by the Carabinieri of the Pescara Operational and Radiomobile Unit led to the arrest of 12 people and the seizure of over 423 kilograms of narcotics.
The investigation, launched in January 2024 and coordinated by the Anti-Mafia District Directorate of the L'Aquila Prosecutor's Office, dismantled an Albanian criminal organization dedicated to the illegal trafficking of cocaine, marijuana, heroin and a special type of cannabis called "amnesia".
The group operated mainly in Abruzzo, with headquarters in Montesilvano and Città Sant'Angelo, but also had branches in Lombardy, Milan, Brescia and Varese, as well as in Albania. The criminal network was involved in all stages of trafficking: from purchase to production, to distribution on the illegal market.
In particular, cocaine was imported from Lombardy via rented vans, while marijuana was cultivated in an industrial warehouse in Piadena Drizzona (Cremona), used as a greenhouse for the cultivation and preparation of the substance.
During the investigations, it emerged that the suspects were using coded communications and non-verbal forms of dialogue, such as gestures and images displayed on mobile devices, to evade police checks. This strategy highlights the awareness of the arrested persons regarding the investigative techniques in use.
The operation began with the analysis of a supply channel identified during Operation “Kirivò”, which had hit a mafia-style association operating in the Rancitelli neighborhood of Pescara, also known as “Ferro di Cavallo”. This precedent gave investigators the information they needed to deepen their investigations and identify new figures involved in drug trafficking.
In addition to the arrests, 421 kg of marijuana and 2 kg of cocaine were seized, confirming the scale and efficiency of the dismantled organization. The investigation also revealed that the criminal group maintained relationships with other organizations, such as Rancitelli's, using these connections to expand its scope and manage its illegal activities more efficiently.
This operation represents an important success for law enforcement in the fight against drug trafficking and demonstrates the importance of cooperation between different agencies and territories in the fight against organized crime. The coordination between the Antimafia District Directorate and the Carabinieri of the Pescara Operational and Radiomobile Unit has allowed us to achieve concrete results and dismantle a well-structured and branched criminal network.
Investigations are ongoing to identify any other members of the organization and to collect further evidence that could help ensure justice and prevent future illegal activities in the territory.
