Known as one of the heads of the Balkan mafia, Arben Kaçorri is arrested in Portugal

The Albanian Arben Kaçorri, who was sentenced in Italy to almost 22 years in prison for murder, was arrested in Portugal and has been declared an international wanted man.
According to the Portuguese media, Arben Kaçorri has been handcuffed together with the drug trafficker, Ícaro Leddy Gouveia, known by the nickname "Ghost" in a luxury building in one of the most expensive areas of the Portuguese capital.
It is reported that Arben Kaçorri, 52, one of the main names of the Balkan mafia, has been living for 11 years in a luxury mansion in Parque das Nações, in Lisbon. Sentenced in Italy to almost 22 years in prison for murder.
In the same building, just one floor above, lived the Portuguese-Brazilian Ícaro Leddy Gouveia, 48 years old, member of the Moroccan mafia "Mocro", but operating mainly in the Netherlands.
The two arrested are said to have run a network dedicated to international drug trafficking, which operated in Portugal and the Netherlands. And everything was said to be coordinated from the building where they lived.
In a statement, the Portuguese Judicial Police explains that it dismantled the criminal organization during an operation called "Labyrinth", which was carried out simultaneously in both countries and made it possible to dismantle the infrastructure of the organized crime group accused of drug trafficking, participation in a criminal organization, kidnapping, hostage-taking and kidnapping.
"Arben Kaçorri and Ícaro Leddy Gouveia remain neighbors even today, although they have changed their address and are now in the high security prison Monsanto, in Lisbon, where they await the development of the investigations", reports the Portuguese media.
According to authorities, large amounts of money, several high-end vehicles, luxury goods, communication systems and various computer equipment were seized from those arrested.
In the announcement, the police also point out that this organization has committed several violent crimes aimed at possessing drugs through the use of force and the use of weapons. Given the great economic potential of the organization, its members had strong security and self-defense measures, namely advanced means of transmitting information, both at the individual level and used in the use of police countermeasures.
Authorities believe that this partnership between the Balkan mafia and the "Mocro Mafia", an organization that has been linked to the murder of Dutch journalist Peter R. de Vries, in July 2021, and death threats against the Dutch royal house, Princess Catharina-Amalia, has operated mainly abroad. The international cocaine traffic had as its epicenter the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, in Belgium.
The name of Arben Kaçorri has been unknown in Lisbon, unlike that of Ícaro, exposed in the media. Considered "very dangerous", he lived for 11 years a discreet and luxurious life in the Portuguese capital.
Arben Kaçorri has a long background associated with criminal organizations. He is also the brother of Valentino Kaçorri, also described as a member of the Balkan mafia. The latter is also Ervis Martinaj's brother-in-law, known as the "King of Gambling", missing since August 2022.
In May 2009, Kaçorri was sentenced in Italy to 21 years and eight months in prison for the murder of his compatriot Fatmir Kala, in Florence, as well as for carrying weapons without a permit. The sentence became permanent in October 2010 after his last appeal was rejected. The Italian authorities, however, were never able to locate Kaçorri so that he could serve his sentence.
The Albanian has also received a pardon for three years, but he must serve 18 years and eight months in prison for that crime. Soon Italy must request the extradition of the convict to the Portuguese state.
After this sentence, 15 assets of Kaçorri were confiscated by the decision of an Albanian court. The drug trafficker lost commercial buildings, apartments, land and garages, all located in Tirana and other cities.
