Hazardous waste in the Port of Durrës, Jim Puckett: We also suspect arsenic, dangerous chemicals that...

In the show "Open" on News24, it was discussed about the remains, which were returned to Albania, after they had previously been sent to Thailand. What are these wastes, how dangerous are they and how can they be disposed of?
In total, it is about 2100 tons of waste, which is suspected to be dangerous, while the containers were seized by an order of the Prosecutor's Office of Durrës.
Jim Puckett from the Basel network, speaking on a Skype connection with the "Open" show, said that practically the dust is described as such on the invoices that accompany the shipment and this description is the same as the data that we received from the informant and it is dust that comes out from metallurgy chimneys.
Earlier he raised suspicions that we are dealing with waste containing arsenic. Puckett said arsenic was found in Thailand, where the waste was destined. Under these conditions, he suspects that there is also arsenic.
Following the interview, Puckett stated that the factory where these wastes were being sent is a factory where very dangerous pollutants, including arsenic, were found in its surroundings.
" Very dangerous waste from many countries of the world was collected there. I can't say what the remains are in Albania, but the fact that they were sent there raises suspicions that they are very dangerous ," he said.
Puckett asked that the containers be placed in a safe, covered location, out of contact with rainfall, as this could have major impacts.
"It's a common waste that comes out of metallurgy that we have a lot of knowledge about," Puckett said.
He said that we are very happy that the Prosecutor's Office took the investigation seriously and confiscated the containers.
"To reveal the truth transparently," Puckett said. He said that we asked for the truth to be revealed and a sample divided into 3 parts of the waste in the container, to be analyzed one by us and two by other laboratories.
Puckett said it's not just heavy metals, but very dangerous chemicals. "Lead is very dangerous, especially for children and the human body," he said.
"When I spoke today with officials of the Ministry of Environment, they told me that in Albania there is a small factory to recycle this waste. But you have to keep in mind that the only thing that can be recovered is the zinc, and it's not worth going through such a process for a very small amount," Puckett said.
He said that we need the truth, who is the harmer and who are those who have broken the law, if the law has been broken. Puckett said that we are afraid that something like this may have happened before, but it is up to the Prosecutor's Office to find out how many times it has happened.
