An international operation codenamed "URA", conducted by Albanian and Italian authorities, has dismantled one of the most powerful drug trafficking and money laundering groups based in Durrës.
ALFAPRESS.AL has secured the exclusive file that laid the foundations for the launch of this mega-operation, which began in the early hours of this morning and involved close cooperation between SPAK, the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate of Bari, Interpol and Eurojust.
According to documents obtained by Alfapress.al, the investigations have lasted more than a year and are based on the analysis of communications from the encrypted Sky ECC application, as well as on the key testimony of the repentant justice official, Nuredin Dumani.
52 security measures, 42 arrested and 10 wanted
Out of 52 security measures (51 arrest warrants and one detention), 42 have been executed, while 10 people are still wanted, among them Ervis Doçi, known as "Visi i Pojës", a name known to Albanian justice, previously convicted of drug trafficking.
According to the file obtained by Alfapress.al, 3 million euros in cash were seized from Doç's apartment a year ago. SPAK had previously issued an arrest warrant against him.
In Albania, the Criminal Court of Albania has issued 29 prison sentences, not only for members of the criminal group, but also for representatives of the justice system, the police, business owners, and public officials.
Among those arrested are:
Armand Tragaj, a lawyer in Durrës, involved in four episodes of illegal influence.
Ligor Çombashi, administrator of a travel agency.
A former police officer and citizen Orges Molla.
According to the exclusive file obtained by Alfapress.al, the criminal group has been trafficking heroin and cocaine since 2016. 40 criminal episodes have been documented, including 30 drug seizures in Italy and 10 in Albania and other EU countries. The total value of this trafficking reaches 7 million euros.
In a joint press conference, SPAK head Altin Dumani, Bari Chief Prosecutor Roberto Rossi, Italian Anti-Mafia director General Michele Carbone and Eurojust representative for Italy Gianluca Forlani stressed that this is a major step in the fight against organized crime.
"A blow has been dealt to one of the most powerful criminal groups in Albania, in drug trafficking and money laundering," said Altin Dumani.
Who are the leaders of the organization?
According to information from the exclusive file provided by Alfapress.al, the organization had Xhevdet Troplini as its main leader, while his closest associates were Adi Çoba and Elvis Doci (Visi i Pojës).
The testimony of the repentant justice Nuredin Dumani has significantly helped in unraveling the role of each member within this structured criminal group.
Assets seized in Albania – 3 restaurants, 1 television and numerous companies
As part of the "URA" operation, SPAK has seized numerous assets suspected of being used for money laundering. According to the file obtained by Alfapress.al, the following have been placed under seizure:
3 restaurants in Durrës,
1 bar-cafe,
6 commercial companies,
1 television in the city of Vlora.
Operation “URA” is a new link in a series of major strikes on the mafia and organized crime in Albania and Italy, previously followed by operations “Shefi”, “Kulmi” and “Shpirti”.
