Independence Day/ The Mayor of New York makes the eagle with his hands and raises the 'red and black' flag

The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, has shown respect and support for the Albanian community in the United States during a special ceremony for the holidays of November 28 and 29, which mark the Independence and Liberation of Albania.

During his speech, Adams emphasized the important role of Albanians in enriching the social, economic and cultural life of New York City. As a sign of respect for this community, he made the double-headed eagle symbol with his hands, an action that symbolizes Albanian national pride and identity.

After the speech, the mayor participated in the ceremony of raising the Albanian flag, alongside the American one, underlining the harmony and strong ties between the Albanian community and the American society.

" The beauty of our country, America, is that it accepts anyone from any country, so I tell you that you should never forget who you are. Never abandon your culture. The place you came from never replaces your homeland.

We are proud to raise your flag side by side today. Although it took 110 mayors to reach this moment. But what makes us great is diversity. This is our secret weapon that makes us who we are.

You believe in what I believe too. In the family, in business, in public safety. And indicative of that are the women and men to my left, Albanians who are members of the New York City Police Department. They serve, protect, ensure that our city is a safe place to raise healthy children and families.

November 28 is your independence, but we are always by each other's side because we need each other.

My son was in Albania last year where he participated in a music competition and won. He called me and said: Dad, I don't know if I'm going to come home.

I love Albania and what it represents. Every time he looks at me, he reminds me of this by showing me the Albanian flag. Thank you Albanians! Thank you!" said the mayor of New York in his speech.
