Scandal with the Dortmund footballer, his father reveals his real age: I got a
Dortmund in the German Bundesliga have been embroiled in a scandal after an investigation revealed the real age of striker Youssoufa Moukoko.

His father, Joseph, said that he got a fake certificate for his son and continued to register him with it. Moukoko, who this season was loaned from Dortmund to Nice in France, is not 20 years old, but 24.

Joseph Moukoko, who was publicly identified as the player's father, claims that he is not the biological parent and that Youssoufa Moukoko was born on July 19, 2000, not November 20, 2004, as stated in official documents.

This discovery, if true, would make Moukoko 24 years old, four years older than previously believed.

"We did it so he could have better opportunities."

In a documentary aired by German broadcaster ProSieben, Joseph Moukoko admitted to falsifying documents to present Youssoufa as his son and lower his official age.

"We did it so he could have better opportunities in European football," Joseph said.  The allegations raise questions about Moukoko's suitability in youth competitions such as the U-17 Bundesliga in 2018 with Borussia Dortmund and Germany's triumph at the European Under-21 Championship in 2021.

Borussia Dortmund have responded to the allegations by confirming the validity of Moukoko's official German documentation.

Sascha Fligge, the club's communications director, said:  "Player registrations and licenses are based on documents issued by the competent authorities."

However, German newspaper Bild carried out investigations in Cameroon, which reportedly turned up no record of Youssoufa Moukoko being born in 2004. Instead, they found documentation for a Youssoufa Mohamadou, born in 2000 and registered as the son of Ousman Mohamadou , a local taxi driver.

Sporting and legal consequences loom

If the allegations are proven, the consequences could be far-reaching for Moukoko, Borussia Dortmund and OGC Nice. Questions about the oversight of football's age verification processes could also prompt wider investigations and reforms within the sport.
