He resigned from the Federation, Gravina is not spared: I should have been a better footballer, if I had scored the penalties we would have been in the World Cup

The Italian Football Federation remains without a new president, with elections set for June 22.
Until then, the interim leadership remains in the hands of Gabriele Gravina, who has resigned, but is using this period to analyze the failure of the national team and the broader crisis that has engulfed Italian football.
Speaking about the elimination from the World Cup, Gravina focused on the match against Bosnia, praising the players' dedication and the work of the technical staff: "The boys gave everything on the field. Gattuso brought spirit to the team, despite the limited time available."
However, he admitted that the penalties proved decisive, using a touch of irony: "Maybe I should have been a better footballer. I missed penalties and crucial chances... maybe I should have trained more ," he said, hinting that the responsibility does not fall solely on the managers.
Gravina also explained the reasons for his resignation after the defeat in Zenica, describing it as a painful but necessary decision: "It is a final act of love for football. I had considered leaving even earlier, due to the obstacles and restrictions that are hindering the development of the sport."
He did not spare criticism of the general climate in the country, emphasizing that public debate is often dominated by emotional reactions rather than rational analysis: "I live almost in isolation. I hoped that after the pandemic we would have a better spirit, but some instincts have deteriorated."
In response to personal criticism, Gravina stated bluntly: "I do not accept moral judgments from anyone. No one has the right to call me unworthy."
An important part of his analysis relates to the role of Serie A clubs, which, according to him, do not contribute enough to the development of local talent: “The clubs pursue their own interests as private companies and do not invest enough in the development of young players for the national team.”
In the end, he also gave a strong message about the relationship between football and Italian society: "Only the fans really love the national team. For many others, including politics, it is only used when things go wrong."
