The meeting on Balluk's immunity ends after 5 hours, Taulant Balla: The plenary session gives the authorization, we will present our report

After nearly five hours of closed-door discussions, the meeting of the Council on Immunity and Mandates has concluded, where SPAK's request for lifting the immunity of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku was reviewed.
The session began at 10:00 and was held without the presence of the media, at the request of the Special Prosecution Office, due to the investigative secrecy of the case.
Holding the meeting behind closed doors was opposed by the opposition, which demanded full transparency and that the discussions be open to the public and the media.
Representatives of the parliamentary majority opposed the request for stricter security measures. SP MP Ulsi Manja stated during the meeting that the current measures against Balluk, a ban on leaving the country and suspension from public office, are sufficient for the needs of the investigation.
This position of the Socialists was also confirmed by the head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, who in a statement to the media announced that Ulsi Manja will be the one who, on behalf of the Socialists, will draft a report which will then be presented to the Assembly in a plenary session.
Regarding this request by SPAK regarding the lifting of the immunity of Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, there will be two reports in the Albanian Parliament, one from the Socialists who, like today, declared that the measures imposed on the minister are sufficient, and one from the Democrats who have requested authorization for her arrest.
"Immunity has its own concept and primary does not exist, I want to inform you at the end of the review of the request for authorization addressed to the Assembly that it has been a very good process, where not without reason, but with full reasons, the Assembly of Albania has taken the necessary time. During the discussions today, the fact came to light that the Court of Appeal itself had suspended the review, because the Constitutional Court was being reviewed. Today's review, I think, has shed light on many issues that are related first and foremost to the essential element of the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, the presumption of innocence.
However, at the end of this process, since the other party did not need to review and it was clear that even in communications with you, the SMS of the decision came before you, while in our case, on behalf of the 5 SP deputies present, I informed the Mandates Council that regarding the DP's request for the immediate issuance of the arrest warrant, we did not agree, we will have a discussion.
"An information from me and the other members, because as you know, the Council does not give the authorization, the authorization is given by the plenary session and after that communication, which the SP GP often holds open meetings, we must understand that there are some elements that cannot be made public, so at the end of this process, as soon as my colleague Ulsi Manja has fully drafted the report on behalf of our 5 members, Mr. Manja will draft our report and in the meantime, the 5 members of parliament will bring their report ," said Balla.
