Liri Berisha: How we kept our marriage strong for 55 years amidst challenges and politics, Saliu is very romantic
A lady with a special dedication and role in Albanian society. Liri Berisha is the woman who elegantly combines professionalism in medicine with a humane and civic profile.
Trained as a pediatrician, she has dedicated her life to caring for children. In the early years of the democratic transition, in her role as First Lady of Albania from 1992 to 1997, she was distinguished by her dignified presence and continuous engagement in social initiatives.
As President of the Regional Center for Autism and head of the Albanian foundation for children, Liri Berisha has consistently been a consistent voice in support of sick children, orphans, and the most vulnerable groups.
In her personal life, she remains a beloved family figure, a devoted wife and mother of two children, maintaining a balance between her family and her humanitarian activities. Today, she appears on the show "Mes'dritë" on Vizion Plus with the duo of moderators Alma Çelaj and Syrjan Rahova, where she rarely talks about her personal life alongside the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.
Mrs. Berisha: Saliu does not write poetry, but he has read a lot of poetry. What surprised me in our acquaintance was his interpretation, he would read me poetry in Russian, whole pages. He would also read to me in Albanian. He himself does not write poetry, he writes beautifully, but not poetry. He was and is very romantic, even though it seems like he is not. There have been not one, but many moments of stress, moments of boredom, anxiety, that politics has given not only to Berisha, but to all Albanian politicians. Politics in Albania has been wild. I have tried to prevent this wildness from passing into our family conversations, so that the children could listen. Although the children were not very young when this situation began, I have tried to keep them away. In every way I have tried to create a calm atmosphere at home, a warm atmosphere that had nothing to do with politics.
She also reveals the "secret" of a long and happy marriage, after 55 years alongside the leader of the Democratic Party. In a candid account, Mrs. Berisha dwells on the qualities that, according to her, have made this relationship strong over the years, highlighting the will and memory of her husband, but also the mutual support in family life.
Mrs. Berisha: Saliu has an extraordinary will. Two things have surprised me; will and memory. These have been the two things that have always surprised me. In family duties we have helped each other. Then politics… I can't say that I have helped. We have been each other's support. Support, sincerity, love, respect, cooperation, are many elements that affect a marriage.
