The Council of Europe formalizes the Albania-European Union intergovernmental conference

The Council of Europe has formalized the eighth Albania-European Union intergovernmental conference on May 26.
At this meeting, the focus will be on Chapter 1, where the final criteria for the judiciary, justice, laws, security, the functioning of democratic institutions, public administration reform and economic criteria will be established.
Earlier, it was Prime Minister Rama who, with a post on social media, announced the intergovernmental conference for the conclusion of the first phase, that of concluding negotiations for membership in the European Union.
Agenda of the meeting in Brussels by the Council of Europe:
The eighth meeting of the Accession Conference with Albania will be held on 26 May 2026 in Brussels.
The meeting will serve to confirm Albania's fulfillment of the interim standards and to establish the closing criteria for Chapter Group 1 "Fundamentals", which includes Chapter 23 - judiciary and fundamental rights, as well as Chapter 24 - justice, freedom and security, functioning of democratic institutions, public administration reform and economic criteria.
This chapter group also includes Chapter 5 – public procurement, Chapter 18 – statistics and Chapter 32 – financial control.
