The next DP candidate for mayor of Tirana? Alimehmeti: I am not someone who burns the stages

Ilir Alimehmeti spoke today on News 24 about the vote recount process in Tirana and Fier that will begin next week.
Alimehmeti emphasized that the CEC failed the first time with the counting of the May 11 votes, a process he said was simple.
"The recount will happen. When, how will it be determined. There are a number of procedures that need to be announced. I, as a party, have not yet been notified. It is a positive precedent. It happened that at first it was not counted properly. Now the second time we expect to receive a positive grade. The CEC. They put their stamp on these elements.
It is a great right of every citizen to demand transparency regarding the vote. The recount will take place and we will follow the process until the end. It is unfortunate that there are always candidates who have to produce evidence and the other side does not. We have a completely opposite approach. Rama forcibly stopped the socialists from dealing with the video. To my knowledge, they have it. The videos are public. From our side, Dr. Berisha has come out himself saying that we support any candidate who demands a recount of preferential votes.”
He further added that every vote should be recorded as it is and not altered.
"We should no longer have institutions that don't know how to do their job. There are many choices in Albania. This issue, open the boxes, is very old for decades. We need to have free and fair elections. In order to trust the process, transparency is needed at every point. This is not important.
1.5 million Albanians voted for each subject. They are owed a policy of free elections. Once this is resolved here that the will in the box is counted properly, then the electoral code is discussed, which should be thrown in the trash. It defocuses the race. The race should be between the DP and the SP, not between candidates on the same list. I opposed this system. It distances the voters from the elected.
The counting is done in the primary. The CEC has remained in the primary. It is not only with the DP candidates but also with the SP candidates. We will put the will on paper, as it is.”
Meanwhile, Alimehmeti states that he will not withdraw from this process, despite the fact that he will not be in the next parliament.
"I will never be an enforcer of public opinion. In the discussion we just had, I clearly said that people are feeling good about this recount. This is the duty of the DP. It is a positive issue. Things that have been done wrong need to be corrected. We will solve the first ones. Learning to count is for the first grades. Let's start from the first, count correctly.
"I am convinced that over 18 thousand citizens of Tirana did not vote for us to withdraw. I voted for a longer path. I have never been a sports player. I have been a marathon player. We are for a long-term sustainable system. The generation must start leaving sustainable things to the generation below."
Regarding the possibility of him running for mayor of Tirana, Alimehmeti says that we are in the middle of a process for parliamentary elections and it is a stage that cannot be left in the middle.
"First of all, we are in the middle of the parliamentary election process. We are still in the counting process. Despite the fact that we have made a request, the municipality is illegitimate. The mayor has not been in office for months. The parliamentary elections are not over yet. We are here to change some things that have not gone well. We are demanding transparency in the parliamentary elections. I am not someone who burns the stages. This is important, the parliamentary elections. I do not show my preference in the media, I show it with political decisions."
