Trump orders Pentagon to release UFO and extraterrestrial files

US President Donald Trump has ordered the Pentagon and other government agencies to release files related to extraterrestrials and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), citing an “extraordinary public interest.” His order specifies that the agencies must include “any other information related to these very complex, but extremely interesting and important matters.”

The announcement was made by Trump on social media on Thursday, just hours after he accused former President Barack Obama of leaking "classified information" when the latter suggested in a podcast interview that aliens were real.

Trump, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, declared: "I don't know if they're real or not."

When asked about Obama's comments, he added: "I can get him out of trouble by declassifying." This comes after a podcast interview released last week in which Obama expressed his belief that extraterrestrials exist but stressed that he had seen no evidence of them during his presidency. He said: "They are real, but I have not seen them and they are not kept in ... Area 51," referring to the top-secret facility at the center of many UFO conspiracy theories.

After his comments quickly went viral, former President Obama issued a clarification on Instagram. He explained that “statistically, the universe is so vast that there is a good chance that there is life out there.” However, he added that “the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances of us being visited by extraterrestrials are low, and I have seen no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”

Public interest in extraterrestrials, unidentified flying objects, and unidentified aerial phenomena has fueled several conspiracy theories over the years. Numerous online forums and social media accounts are dedicated to solving the mystery, with many insisting that the US government knows more than it is letting on. This interest culminated in the “Storm Area 51” event, where about 100 people gathered at the entrance to the secret US military base “to see those extraterrestrials.”

Interest in the subject has been renewed in recent years after the US government investigated several reports of what appeared to be “supernatural” aircraft. However, in March 2024, the Pentagon released a report stating that there was no evidence that the aerial phenomenon was extraterrestrial technology.
