Osman's mandate ends/ Ceremony held, the duty of president passes to Albulena Haxhiu

Officially, the duty of President of Kosovo has passed to Parliament Speaker Albulena Haxhiu, after Vjosa Osmani's mandate ended today.
The ceremonial act of handing over the office was held at the President's Office today at 4:00 p.m. During the ceremony, Haxhiu presented flowers to Osman.
In a Facebook post, Osmani emphasized that this was not just her journey. "These five years were not the story of one person. They were our shared journey. With people from every field, who believed in Kosovo. Who worked, contributed and pushed forward ideas and opportunities for our citizens. Thank you for standing with us and for our eternal Kosovo ," she wrote.
Osmani, who took office with the support of Vetëvendosje, failed to secure a second term, despite having publicly expressed her desire to continue in the post.
The issue of choosing a president has been at the center of political discussions since the elections at the end of last year. However, so far, it remains unresolved. Deputies have until the end of this month to elect a new head of state; otherwise, the country will go to new elections, as the Constitutional Court has ruled.
The impasse is mainly related to the lack of sufficient numbers for candidates. Vetëvendosje, after its two proposals, Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Kollçaku, does not have the necessary deputies to go through the selection process.
The opposition, on the other hand, has sought a consensual candidate and has refused to vote for the VV candidates. Prime Minister Albin Kurti has announced meetings with the leaders of the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo in the coming days.
