Kurti on Engel's death: He supported NATO's intervention to stop the genocide in Kosovo
Prime Minister Albin Kurti has written about the death of former US Congressman Eliot Engel, one of Kosovo's biggest supporters, who died yesterday at the age of 79.
Kurti emphasized his role in the support he gave to Kosovo in Congress, supporting NATO's intervention to stop the genocide in Kosovo, as well as supporting Kosovo's independence.
"Eliot Engel had long been honored with a memorial in Kosovo even before the boulevard in the city of Peja was named after him, through his powerful voice in Congress, where he was among the first and most determined members to condemn Milosevic's genocidal campaign. He supported NATO's intervention to stop the Serbian genocide, supported the declaration of Kosovo's independence, and warned of Russia's malign influence in Europe. Personally, and on behalf of the country, we receive the news of his passing with deep sorrow, but also with eternal gratitude for his service," Kurti wrote in X.
Kurti added that Engel “will live forever in our hearts and minds, as an example of what public service can achieve—the lives it can save and the democracy that can flourish when people stand up for what is right.”
