Academy of Sciences in Kosovo: We were not invited to the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language

The Kosovo Academy of Sciences has not become part of the project for the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language.
Academics from Kosovo say that without defining the principles of work and resolving dilemmas, mainly on the issue of lexicon, they have refused to participate. On the other hand, according to the Albanian Academy of Sciences, the invitation to participate in the drafting of the Dictionary was addressed to all specialists, but only members of the Albanological Institute of Pristina accepted.
Over 105,000 words included in the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language have 250,000 meanings. In addition to the dictionaries used as sources, the works of writers who have enriched Albanian were also used.
The entire work of Ismail Kadare, Dritëro Agolli, Fatos Arapi, Rexhep Qose, Sabri Hamiti, Anton Çeta, Murat Isakut was introduced into the system. For example, the word 'thashathemnajë' was created, which Kadare also uses a lot. We have many words such as 'qiellnajë', 'lulnajë', 'bredhnajë'. They are beautiful formations not only in terms of musicality, but also as laws of the internal formation of Albanian, they have taken root" , said the Director of the Institute of Linguistics, Acad. Prof. Dr. Valter Memisha.
Over 35 thousand units from dialectal dialects have been added to the dictionary, while academician Valter Memisha explains the rule that was used in their selection: "We have eliminated what are called dialectisms, regionalisms and have introduced those words that may come from dialects, but should be raised to the level of standard Albanian, also making the pronunciation according to standard Albanian. Adjectives with 'shëm' have been significantly increased. We are indebted to Gheg."
As for borrowings, those words that are used by the majority of Albanians or that bring new meaning are included.
"If the pronunciation is 'facebook', that's how it should be written. There is a contradiction because the Orthography Congress writes many words that originate, especially from neo-Latin languages, as in the original. We also need to look at pronunciation trends ," says Prof. Memisha.
