To be realistic, we've all had a few "lazy" days at unacceptable levels; those days when we want to become one with the bed and hope the world forgets us.

But if such a condition becomes a kind of "chronic laziness", perhaps it is better to worry, because it may be a sign of a deeper psychological disturbance called clinomania.

Clinomania (which is also often accompanied by symptoms such as prolonged fatigue, difficulty concentrating, social isolation and apathy) is not simply a desire to sleep, it is an obsessive desire to stay in bed as if the sheets were the only safe place in the world.

The causes can be many: from depression ("I can't handle the world today") to anxiety ("I'd rather stay here, the world outside is too scary"), to past traumas or low self-esteem.

But there are also physical triggers, such as sleep disorders, hormonal disorders, or that chronic fatigue that makes you feel like you've climbed Everest after just one run to the fridge.

How can we get out of this? Don't be fooled, the miracle doesn't come with a nicer wake-up call or the right coffee. It takes a combination of goodwill and, if necessary, professional help.

However, there are some simple exercises that can help us not fall into the spiral of clinomania: we can try to create a routine (yes, something like getting up at the same time every day); if we're not yet at the "I don't even want to move or go out" stage, we can try going outside and getting some sun – because the sun isn't just good for plants, it's also good for us humans; we can also try learning something new (cultivating hobbies or taking an interest in something new can stimulate the brain and keep self-esteem up).

And if the situation is more serious, a conversation with a specialist may be the only effective solution.

And the last piece of advice: Don't ignore the signs your body and mind are sending. Always take care of yourself.
