The elections in Moldova as a model for Albania as well
Yesterday Moldova had the most important elections for its future.

The referendum on EU membership and also the presidential elections.
These votes were by no means easy and of vital importance, especially regarding the pro-EU Referendum!

The elections were held in a not at all normal climate, considering the political offers, the internal social reality and foreign influences.

In fact, as expected the majority of Moldovans living in the country voted against the Referendum.
The European hope and dream of Moldova and Moldovans was kept alive thanks to the vote of citizens who already live abroad in various European countries voting massively in favor.

Their vote had some important data:

- It was not influenced by economic circumstances and perhaps not blackmailable
- Their direct experience in Europe did not question their pro-EU orientation
- Their vote was as important and necessary and perhaps even more so than those who they have not emigrated.

The referendum in favor of the European future of Moldova won with a small margin of 11 thousand votes. However, it is already certain that Moldova does not take a single step back in the accession process. Can't imagine who would have been the future of this small country if we had a negative result for the Referendum. Of course, the future of this country would be an obstacle for their citizens, most of whom live in the EU, but also a dangerous indication for Europe itself and other countries navigating between Russian influence and the European dream.

While the presidential elections went to a runoff where the race will now be between the pro-EU president in office, Maia Sandu, and Alexandr Stoianoglo, a former prosecutor supported by the pro-Russian socialists. So, the race will again be between the European dream and the Russian influence. After the positive result of the pro-EU referendum, the current president entered the second round with a stronger position. The vote of Moldovans living abroad will surely be decisive again.

Also, I believe that there will be a reflection in the second round even for those voters who were probably wavering about the result of the Referendum. Anyway, the current president with the victory of the referendum has done an extraordinary service to the country. The European dream continues and is stronger than ever thanks to the vote of those living abroad.

The elections in Moldova are the best example to prove how important is the vote of those who live abroad, determining with their will and their European experiences the future of the country. Maybe even the Albanians who live abroad in the next elections and with their vote will make the European dream of Albania possible by putting an end to the transition.
