The fruit and vegetable market in Durrës is facing a significant increase in prices, directly affecting the purchasing power of citizens. The situation is difficult for both traders and consumers, who complain about the inability to cope with the increasing costs.

Sellers say that the lack of customers has become worrying, while emphasizing that the majority of buyers are retirees, who buy only basic products and in minimal quantities.

"There is no movement at all, the market is empty," says one vendor, while another adds that the situation is getting worse:

"We don't sell, because there are no people. Only pensioners buy a grain. We stay unemployed all day, while we pay taxes. We are thinking of closing it down."

Other traders also link the price increase to various economic factors. According to them, the increase in fuel prices has directly affected the supply chain, while imported products continue to become more expensive. On the other hand, domestic production has been hit by natural disasters, reducing supply in the market.

"Purchasing power is not where it should be, because prices are too high. After the increase in oil, our products have also increased," says a vendor.

Meanwhile, citizens, especially pensioners, consider the situation unbearable. They say they have been forced to significantly reduce the amount of products they buy.

"I don't buy tomatoes at all, they're too expensive," says one citizen, while another adds: "We only buy 2-3 berries. It used to be much cheaper."

Many of them require intervention from institutions to control prices and stabilize the market.

"The prices are too high, they can't be afforded with a pension. The state must intervene," says another citizen.

The continuous increase in prices is weighing on Albanian families every day, increasing economic pressure and prompting calls for concrete measures that would ease the situation in the market./ EuronewsAlbania
