VIDEO/ Protests in the US, journalist hit with rubber bullet in Los Angeles

An Australian journalist was hit by a rubber bullet amid chaotic protests that have engulfed parts of Los Angeles in the US .

American correspondent Lauren Tomasi was shot in the leg with a rubber bullet by a police officer standing guard in the city center.

This happened on the third day of violent protests that erupted in the second most populous city in the US in response to numerous arrests of illegal immigrants.

Thomas was hit while reporting live near the front lines of protests surrounding the city's metropolitan detention center.

"You just shot the journalist, you damn idiot," an unknown voice is heard saying, as Lauren screams and the live broadcast is cut off.
