Ill during visit to the US and returned to Serbia, Vučić admitted to military hospital in Belgrade

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić was admitted to the Military Hospital in Belgrade on May 3, Belgrade media reported. Vučić had previously fallen ill during a visit to the United States.
He was checked by doctors and after the check-up he decided to return to Serbia, according to Serbian public broadcaster RTS.
Vučić met with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani during his stay in the US. He was scheduled to meet with several senior Republican Party officials before cutting short his visit to the US. The US President's Special Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell, wished Vučić a speedy recovery after the Serbian leader abruptly cut short his visit.
In a post on X, Grenell also expressed regret that he was unable to meet with the Serbian leader. According to the Tanjug agency, Vučić fell ill while preparing for meetings with US congressmen. The Serbian presidency's office reported that the public will be informed in the coming days with details about Vučić's health.
Vučić's visit to the US came days before he is due to attend Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9. His visit to Russia has been criticised by the European Union. Serbia, which has good relations with Russia, has so far not imposed sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.
The European Union has repeatedly called on Serbia, a country that aims to join the bloc, to harmonize its foreign policy with that of Brussels./ REL
