Trump on his tariff policy: America should produce tanks, not T-shirts and socks!

US President Donald Trump said today that his tariff policy aims to boost domestic production of tanks and technological products and not the development of the textile industry.
At a press conference with reporters, he said he agreed with comments made on April 29 by Treasury Secretary Scott Besant that the United States did not necessarily need a “booming textile industry,” comments that drew criticism from the National Council of Textile Organizations.
" We don't intend to make sneakers and T-shirts. We want to make military equipment. We want to build great things. We want to build artificial intelligence. I don't intend to make T-shirts, to be honest. I don't intend to make socks either. We can do that very well in other countries. We're intending to make microprocessors, computers and many other things, as well as tanks and ships ," Trump said.
The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) is responding to Trump's comments that tariffs are not good for the industry. " More tariffs will mean higher costs for American manufacturers and higher prices that will hurt lower-income consumers ," said the president of the apparel and footwear association.
