Tragedy with 298 dead! UN: Russia guilty for the downing of the Malaysia Airlines plane in 2014

Russia is to blame for the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine in July 2014, according to a statement from the United Nations aviation agency, as reported by the BBC.
All 298 passengers on board were killed when the plane was shot down by a Russian-made missile. The Kremlin has consistently denied the allegations. On Monday, the UN’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council voted that Russia had failed to meet its obligations under international aviation laws, which require states to “refrain from the use of weapons against civil aircraft in flight.”
Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down over the Donbas region of Ukraine, during the war between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed rebels.
Most of the passengers and crew, 196 people, were from the Netherlands. There were also 38 passengers from Australia, 10 from Britain, as well as Belgian and Malaysian citizens.
The matter was brought to the UN in 2022 by the governments of Australia and the Netherlands, who welcomed the ICAO decision. “We call on Russia to finally face responsibility for this horrific act of violence and pay reparations for the harm caused, ” Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said.
Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp said that this is an important step towards uncovering the truth and achieving justice and accountability.
