A tragic event has shocked public opinion in Greece, after a 5-month-old baby died under still unclear circumstances on the island of Paros. The parents of the minor, of Albanian origin and residents of the island for years, have been arrested by Greek authorities on charges of dangerous exposure that led to the child's death.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, when the child's mother took her unconscious child to the Paros Health Center, where doctors found that the child was not breathing. Despite resuscitation efforts, the child unfortunately passed away.

According to authorities, there are several scenarios under investigation. One of the main suspicions is that the child may have been left in the car for a long time while the parents were at the beach.

A local resident told Greek television station Star that the family was on Paraspóros beach and that they had left the child in the car to sleep, after he had dozed off on the way.

Another version being investigated is that the baby may have been in the sun for several hours and lost consciousness later at home.

Contradictions in the parents' testimonies

According to Greek police, the parents' testimonies do not match. The father stated that the child was with them on the beach, while the mother admitted that they had left him in the car. These contradictions have raised more doubts about how the fatal death occurred.

After confirming the death, doctors immediately notified the police and the couple was arrested. They were taken to the police station and are expected to appear before the Syros Prosecutor's Office, while investigations continue.
