Bullets on senators, after Trump reacts, Biden: Politically motivated attack should never happen
"This heinous, politically motivated attack should never happen in America," former US President Joe Biden said in a statement.
"We must not give hatred and extremism any safe haven, and we must all unite against political violence as a nation," Biden declared.
Democrat Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed in what appears to be a "politically motivated assassination," Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said. Democratic state legislator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot.
US President Donald Trump also said the shooting appeared to be a "targeted attack on state lawmakers", adding that "such horrific violence will not be tolerated".
The suspect in the Hortman shooting is believed to have impersonated a police officer and fled after a scuffle with officers, police say. According to US media, law enforcement says they are looking for a person named Vance Luther Boelter, a man in his 50s.
