Sweden blocks Onlyfans, Swedish parliament passes legislation banning purchase of pornographic content

The Swedish parliament, Riksdag, has passed legislation banning the purchase of personalized sexual services on Onlyfans.
The law will come into effect on July 1 and aims to fill a legal gap in digital forms of sexual exploitation.
Under the new framework, payment for pre-recorded material, such as videos, is still permitted as long as the buyer has not influenced the content.
However, it is now illegal to pay someone to perform sexual acts on video or via camera with the intention of sending the material to a "client".
What activities are prohibited?
This is perhaps the most “commercial” part of the OnlyFans platform, whose “content creators” are paid to do specific things by their “supporters”… or to do live broadcasts, where they accept money to perform specific actions.
The law also criminalizes any form of promotion or economic exploitation of people who provide sexual services remotely.
This includes intermediation, content production, or providing platforms for the purpose of profiting from such services. In short, it bans platforms like OnlyFans.
Digital pornography platform OnlyFans reacted strongly before the law was passed, claiming that it contributed significantly to the economy, including paying about $12 million a year in taxes.
However, the Swedish government insisted on implementing the measure, emphasizing the need to protect against the commercialization of human dignity online.
