Spain declares state of emergency after massive power outage

Spain's Interior Ministry declared a state of emergency today after a major power outage swept across the country, leaving millions of citizens without power and paralyzing vital sectors such as transport and telecommunications.
According to the official statement, the state of emergency will only come into effect in those regions that request help from the central government. So far, three regions – Madrid, Andalusia and Extremadura – have requested immediate state intervention to take control of public order and other critical functions.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said the outage was caused by a "strong oscillation" in the national electricity grid, but stressed that the exact cause of the incident had not yet been identified. Authorities are investigating the possibility of a large-scale technical fault or a cyberattack.
Citizens in many cities reported communication disruptions, train delays and traffic chaos. Officials have appealed for calm and cooperation, while emergency teams are on the ground to restore basic services.
