UN chief calls on Israel and Hezbollah to stop war: Now is not the time for armed organizations, but for strong states

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Israel and pro-Iranian Hezbollah to "stop the war" in Lebanon, where the Israeli military is intensifying its attacks.

"I strongly call on both sides, Hezbollah and Israel, to reach a ceasefire to stop the war," he said during a visit to Beirut.

He further added that "Now is not the time for armed organizations, it is the time for strong states."

"I really hope that during my next visit... I will be able to see a Lebanon at peace. I will be able to visit a Lebanon where the state has a monopoly on power and where territorial integrity has been restored and fully respected," Guterres said.
