After blocking 90 billion euro EU loan, Hungary threatens to cut off gas

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced that he will stop the flow of gas to Ukraine until it resumes the flow of gas through the pipeline that supplies Eastern Europe with Russian oil, which was damaged by Russian attacks.

The reason for this action was the interruption of supply through the Druzhba pipeline, which transports Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia via Ukraine.

Kiev says Russian attacks damaged the pipeline, but Slovakia and Hungary, which maintained ties with Moscow during the war, have accused Ukraine of delaying the resumption of oil flows for political reasons.

In a video posted on Facebook, Orban said: " We are gradually cutting off gas supplies from Hungary to Ukraine and will store the gas that remains with us in Hungary."

Budapest has currently blocked a planned €90 billion EU loan to Kiev over the pipeline dispute. Slovakia has also threatened to follow suit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the European Commission last week that repair work was nearing completion.
