Austrian media have published the first photos of 21-year-old Arthur A., ​​who yesterday shot and killed 10 people (nine students and a teacher) before committing suicide during his attack at a school in Graz, Austria.

Austrian authorities are treating the attack by the 21-year-old as an act of revenge. The 21-year-old lived with his mother in Kalsdorf near Graz. His father is Armenian.

According to information from Austrian media, in the suicide note found in his room, the young man allegedly described that he had failed his lessons and was looking to blame someone.

Local media reports that the 21-year-old had been absent from class several times.

In a farewell video he recorded on his cellphone and sent to his mother shortly before the attack, he asks her to forgive him “for what I’m about to do now.” He also thanks his mother for the care he received from her.

Authorities, as reported by media in Austria, say the perpetrator's mother opened the video 24 minutes after receiving it, when the attack had occurred and her son had ended his life.

He also left a letter accusing the school of bullying and asking them to take care of his cat, which he poses with.

Austrian media reports that Arthur A. had a gun permit, but not a firearm permit. In Austria, buying a rifle is legal for those over 18, while buying a revolver requires a psychiatric evaluation.

The 21-year-old opened fire with a pistol and a rifle in two classrooms and other areas of the school. An explosive device was also found in his home, but it was not functional.

The victims, a total of six girls and three boys, were mostly between 15 and 17 years old, while one was 14. A 59-year-old teacher also fell dead from the perpetrator's bullets.

Eleven others were injured in the attack. Of these, four are in intensive care and the others are in stable condition.
