Donald Trump explains conversation with Netanyahu: Very good discussion! We are

US President Donald Trump confirmed that he had a "very good" phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where they discussed a number of issues, including nuclear negotiations with Iran and the situation in Gaza.

Trump also announced that the US is expected to hold a meeting with Iranian representatives on Thursday, highlighting the difficulties in reaching an agreement.

He told the media that the United States is trying to reach an agreement with Iran to avoid "destruction and casualties," but described Tehran as a "difficult negotiator."

“We’re trying to get a deal so that we don’t have catastrophe and death,” Trump said. The main obstacle, he said, is the fact that Iran is demanding conditions that “cannot be accepted.” He added that Tehran does not want to give up its uranium enrichment capacity — a key issue that the US is not willing to tolerate, even though the American offer allows, in a limited and temporary manner, enrichment on Iranian soil.

"Their demands are not acceptable. I have made that clear," Trump declared, without clarifying whether Iran has given an official response to the American proposal.

The Gaza and hostage issue

Asked about ongoing negotiations for the release of hostages between Israel and Hamas, Trump confirmed that talks are still ongoing and that “Iran is directly involved.” He did not provide further details, leaving Iran’s role in the sensitive process of negotiating a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip unclear.

"We'll see what happens with Gaza. We want to get the hostages back," he added.

Trump was also asked about the recent incident where the Israeli navy seized a ship carrying climate activist Greta Thunberg, who was trying to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza.

The American president did not spare irony towards her: "Greta is a strange girl, very angry. She needs to take some anger management courses," said Trump, continuing the old controversies between him and the Swedish activist, dating back to 2019.
