Trump-Musk debate! US media: Tech mogul called president, before expressing regret for "excessive" criticism

US President Donald Trump says he is "grateful" for the regret expressed by Elon Musk, the world's richest man, who admitted he "overdid" his criticism of his once close ally.

"The president saw the post that Elon Musk made this morning and is grateful ," White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said during a briefing with reporters.

The spokeswoman clarified that the Trump administration has not begun reviewing any of the numerous contracts that Musk's companies have entered into with the federal government.

According to the New York Times, citing three sources, Trump received a call from Musk late Monday night, after which the billionaire expressed regret for some of the tweets he made last week. However, the newspaper did not specify which posts he was referring to.

After Musk's "regret," Trump told the New York Post: " I think it's a very good thing he did that."
