Plane catches fire in London after pilot confuses left with right

An unusual incident occurred at Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom, where a British Airways plane was forced to cancel takeoff after the co-pilot confused his left hand with his right, leading to an emergency situation on the runway.

Investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch reported that the pilot's error caused the Boeing 777's throttle levers to be moved in the wrong direction, reducing thrust just as the captain had given the command to take off.

Although the plane regained speed for a moment, the takeoff process was completely interrupted and the plane stopped before the end of the runway.

There were no injuries from the incident, but the vehicle's brakes caught fire and the airport firefighters had to intervene to bring the situation under control.

As a result, the runway was closed for about 50 minutes and 23 other departures from the airport were canceled.

There were 334 passengers and 13 crew members on board. According to the AAIB report, the breakfast had been normal and there were no factors to suggest distraction or workload for the pilots.
