Tragic accident in Austria/ Explosion and large fire after truck hits train, 16 people reported injured

A serious accident occurred on Monday morning in Austria, where a truck collided head-on with a train, causing a powerful explosion and high flames that engulfed both vehicles.

According to local authorities, 16 people received medical assistance, while the truck driver suffered serious injuries and was transported by rescue helicopter to the hospital.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. at an unprotected railway crossing, where the fatal collision caused the train and truck to explode and then burst into flames. The train cabin was completely burned out, while large clouds of smoke were seen over the accident area, writes BILD .

There were 10 passengers on the train, three of whom – including the driver – suffered minor injuries, while the others emerged shaken but physically unharmed. Construction workers near the scene suffered smoke inhalation and also received medical attention at the scene.

More than 70 firefighters with 14 vehicles immediately intervened to bring the flames under control and prevent them from spreading to the surrounding areas. The firefighting operation lasted several hours, while investigations into the causes of the collision are still ongoing.

Austrian authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the exact cause of the accident, but they point out that the railway crossing was not protected by barriers or automatic signaling - a key factor that may have influenced today's tragedy.
