New details have emerged from the arrest of 5 people internationally wanted in Dubai, with the aim of extradition to Albania, after they are accused of drug trafficking and computer fraud.
It is learned that among them is Kristo Qirici, the brother of businessman Edmond Papa, killed in the Paris Commune area on December 16, 2022.
Qirici was declared wanted by SPAK in March 2025, after the crackdown on the criminal group he was suspected of leading. According to the Special Prosecution, the 44-year-old's group was trafficking large amounts of drugs to Greece. Also, as part of this group, 4 police station chiefs were also involved in drug trafficking.
" During the years 2019-2021, it is evident that a structured criminal group operated in Saranda, which dealt with the cultivation and trafficking of plants and narcotics, while its creator, leader and organizer are suspected to be the citizens under investigation KQ (alias JH, alias JQ) and EA (alias KA).
The investigation reveals that during the years 2019-2021, members of this structured criminal group had certain tasks aimed at cultivating the narcotic cannabis sativa plant in the Saranda area and its surroundings, planting it in certain areas and cultivating it in closed environments ," SPAK announced at the time.
Also, the GJKKO has imposed a seizure measure on Qiriç's assets, as they are suspected of stemming from illegal activities.
Edmond Papa, Qeric's brother, was killed on December 16, 2022 in the Selita area of Tirana, while drinking coffee in a bar. The perpetrators shot him with about 9 bullets and immediately left the scene. He died on the way to the hospital.
Papa was described as a businessman from Saranda, a hotel owner, but also known to authorities for criminal records outside Albania.
According to the Prosecution's investigations, the main motive is suspected to have been revenge. Investigators linked the incident to the explosive murder of Aleksandër Sadikaj in June 2022. It was suspected that there had been a conflict between Sadikaj and Papa over drug trafficking issues and that Sadikaj's close associates organized the assassination of Papa.
Andreë Bode was accused of the murder as the executioner and Alban Velo as an accomplice. According to the investigative file, they had observed the Pope for several days in Saranda and Tirana before the assassination.
