The Elbasan Police have executed the Prosecutor's order dated 13.06.2025, for the detention of citizen Astrit Sinanaj, 49 years old, resident of Tirana.
The Tirana Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction has upheld the decision of the Elbasan Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, which sentenced this citizen to 22 years in prison, of which he still has 13 years left to serve, for the criminal offenses of "Intentional murder committed in a manner that is very dangerous to the lives of many people", attempted, "Unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition", "Destruction of property with explosives", "Removal of a prisoner from his place of residence".
We recall that on April 24, 2023, the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction upheld the decision of the Elbasan Court, which found guilty and sentenced to prison the two defendants who attempted to kill businessman Fuad Verzivolli 6 years ago by placing TNT in his car.
The prison sentence for Astrit Sinanaj, accused of several criminal offenses, and Thanas Thoma, accused of failing to report a crime, was upheld.
On May 6, 2017, Astrit Sinanaj placed 1 kg of C4 TNT under the car of businessman Fuad Verzivolli. The explosive was discovered by a person in the area, who called his cousin who worked for the police.
The 49-year-old was identified through the examination of 13 security cameras in the city of Elbasan, after a quantity of 1022 grams of C4 was discovered in May 2017 in Fuat Verzivollit's vehicle. The latter, during the trial, said that he had never had a confrontation with the suspect, but that he was used as bait during a gang clash in Elbasan.
"I was going to watch the match at the food market and they wanted to harm them, not me. The goal was not to harm me, but to use me as a postman. I was not the target, I was the postman, because I was the only one who went there to the market, I met Sokol Sanxhatari, Suel Çela and a few others," the target confessed.
But the Prosecution said that forensic evidence shows that the suspect made the phone call that remotely controlled the explosion, which did not take place, not because of him, but because a citizen had accidentally seen a package in the vehicle and had removed it earlier.
But Astrit Sinanaj insists that he was not heard by the courts after he had also requested expertise with the claim that the person appearing on the security cameras is not him and that the phone did not belong to him. The Supreme Court considers that for an impartial trial, a group of experts should examine the security footage and compare it with the identity of the suspect.
