Unreasonable construction increases the risk of erosion in the tourist area of Durres

Landslides have returned to the hilly area of Currile in Durrës, causing serious problems for homes and businesses.
The phenomenon has been repeated several times in recent days as a result of rainfall, while the situation is also endangering traffic in this tourist area.
According to specialists, human intervention and lack of urban planning have significantly worsened the condition of the terrain.
"Our Durrës is suffering from maritime activity and, moreover, the situation worsens when these cities develop without urban plans. The opinion of specialists is not taken into account. The tender is won with as few people as possible, so that they don't turn that tomato into a salad, without thinking that someone else is the specialist," says Adem Hyseni, a geologist.
The expert emphasizes that the measures taken so far have been temporary and not long-term solutions to stabilize the terrain.
"This is not stopped by the wall that has been built, nor by the net that has been installed, nor by patches. It is just eating up expenses every year by removing hundreds of tons of waste, then the environmental damage and the dust that is created in winter and summer. We used to have a balance: it would erode and go to the sea. Now we have cut this process and have installed walls, and it will work. It would help a generation of rooted trees and lighten the weight by removing some of the material," says Hyseni.
Currently, the scene on the ground is characterized by mud, cracked curbs and uprooted pine trees, raising concerns about the safety of one of the city's most frequented tourist areas./ EuronewsAlbania
