The Special Court has found the former chief inspector of the INUV at the municipality of Elbasan, Andri Mehja, guilty of committing the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions", committed in collaboration.

He was sentenced to 3 years in prison, which was reduced to 2 years in prison by a summary trial, but this sentence was again converted into 4 years of probation.

Andri Mehja was also given the additional punishment of being disqualified from holding public office for 5 years.

The same sentence as Andri Mehja's was given to the former employee of INUV in Elbasan, Gentian Bako, whose 2 years of imprisonment given in the summary trial were converted into 4 years of probation.

Andi Mehja was the head of the Local Urban Construction Inspectorate in the Municipality of Elbasan and was denounced by the show "Stop" in connection with an incident where a business in the city of Elbasan was fined for building a tent without a permit.

Through a realtor, Andri Mehja, asked the citizen for a bribe of 2.5 million Lekë to reduce the fine from 17 million to 5 million Lekë.

The complaint was filed in April of last year and Andri Mehja was declared wanted. He was arrested 6 months later, in October, at the Kapshtica border crossing.

Andri Mehja is known in Elbasan as the brother of Orel alias Aurel Mehja, the son-in-law of the former mayor of Elbasan, Qazim Sejdini.

Orel (Aurel) Mehja was arrested in March for the criminal offense of "Threat in the Line of Duty" after threatening a police officer.
