A wide-ranging anti-drug operation led to the issuance of 11 arrest warrants , carried out in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The investigations, carried out by law enforcement and coordinated by the judiciary, dismantled an active drug trafficking network between Lesina, Campomarino, Sannicandro Garganico and Ruvo di Puglia.

Among the investigation documents, a disturbing element emerges: the alleged relationship between some of the main suspects and a carabinieri on duty at the Poggio Imperiale station.

According to part of the 102-page warrant, the two main suspects, Albanian Elidon Buxheli and Angelo Di Nauta, are alleged to have had telephone and personal contacts with the law enforcement officer to obtain strategic information.

In particular, suspicions focus on the details related to the discovery of a GPS installed under the vehicle used by one of the Albanian drug traffickers.

Investigations suggest that the carabinieri advised Di Nauta to go to a tire dealer to check for other GPS devices in the cars used by the traffickers, a suggestion that was subsequently followed.

The investigation reveals an alarming picture: despite the prior status of some of the suspects, suspicions of their unscrupulousness are strong.

The investigations arose from the relationships between two of the suspects, Leonardo Cursio and Rita Sacco, with the man of Albanian origin involved in trafficking.

In particular, it was discovered that they had organized a trip to transport drugs; upon their return, the woman complained to her partner about the salary she was receiving – one thousand euros – which she considered insufficient.

The investigation represents a serious blow to drug trafficking networks in the Foggia area and raises concerns about the possible infiltration of individuals linked to police forces into the criminal system.

Authorities continue to work to shed light on any collusion and ensure the safety of the community.
