"Crime, the only field where we excel!"/ Ergys Mërtiri: In Albania, the mafia has the state on its side!

Sociologist Ergys Mërtiri has spoken about the Albanian crime that is now widespread in the world. 

Invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, Mërtiri said that crime is an area where Albanians excel more than in all others and this happens because the mafia in our country has the state on its side. 

"Crime is the only field where we excel, here we are the first, we dominate in Holland, Spain, we have connections as far as Ecuador, Dubai. Internationally, in SKY ECC, the most used language after English was Albanian.

Why? What makes us so good in this field? The only difference is that crime does not have the state against it, but it has it on its side. No country has such a wide reach.

The criminal tendency is another thing and it comes from the lack of education, the street culture, the models of rappers, which Edi Rama poses with. Where does crime find food? The state. If crime in Holland, Spain, England, even Ecuador, has the state against it, here they have it on their side. This is the superiority of the Albanian mafia, with the other mafia.

If he didn't have the pro state, he would be like the others. This is an alarm. We are not without a state, but with a criminalized state. The state supports criminality. It does not mean the whole state, but the leaders, the policy does this. We have criminal groups, the criminalization of politics, but also the politicization of crime. Important people from crime, they ran for parliament, they are in the police, there is influence that hires people, offers career systems. This makes it strong, powerful, controls institutions. Rama has had this policy in a visible way with the tolerance he gave to hashish in the movie. It brought a reality that you can no longer control, you are addicted to it. 

Crime is not just widespread, but sophisticated, more so than the police and the state. The Albanian mafia has diversified its activity. The state and Albania also offer shelter to the international mafia, we have Ndragheta here. Clean money in construction. Similarly, in the territory, there are areas where the police do not enter. They have control over state institutions. It is the only place where the radars are turned off for the mafia to pass drugs.

The mafia has enormous amounts of money. Their problem is money laundering. It has the infrastructure, terrifying level of recruitment, communication and technological means to commit crimes. Here the criminal groups have more information about each other than the police groups. It makes it efficient, powerful and problematic. This replaces the state. Rama says they eat their heads, but the mafia does not rival the state, it rivals itself. By capturing the state, they capture the market, you can't do business, because you have to pay the fine, or the other competes with dirty money.
