The administrator of "Kurum" speaks: The company has temporarily closed the production activity

"Kurum International Sh.A." has become the center of criticism after the scandal with the shipment of toxic waste from the former Elbasan Metallurgical Plant to Thailand.

The "Kurum" company has given a reaction to the show 'Opinion' on TV Klan, where it has given its version regarding this event and what is happening with the company in the last few days.

In response to the questions, "KURUM" emphasizes that their company has temporarily closed only the production activity, while according to the administrator, other activities continue normally.

The company also states that it does not produce toxic waste. "KURUM" cited that during the steel production process, several types of waste are generated, such as: Iron Oxide, Zinc Oxide and Slag, which are not considered hazardous waste.

1. Is yours classified as toxic waste on the ship returning from Thailand?

The company Kurum International does not produce toxic waste. Regarding the waste in question, given that their last sale was made in October 2023, and that we are not the exporter of this waste, it is impossible to have complete information on this issue. If we had the complete analysis of these materials, we would be able to express a more concrete opinion regarding this fact.

2. Do you produce hazardous waste and how do you treat your waste?

During the steel production process, several types of waste are generated, such as: Okaline, or Iron Oxide (FeO). This material has a high percentage of iron, is not a hazardous waste and is a product that serves as a raw material in some industries such as steel, cement, etc. Zinc oxide. This material is generated during the process of treating the gases coming out of the steel furnace in the furnace gas collection and cleaning system. These powders may contain heavy metals, (but not radioactivity), which pose a risk if not stored or transported properly. This material also serves as a raw material in the paint production industry, etc. Slag. These are residues that are generated during the production of steel and contain various oxides of iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, silicon, etc. but do not constitute heavy elements. They are not hazardous waste and are used as filling material for road paving and the production of concrete elements. It should be noted that for every quarter, every 6 months and for every year it is reported to the National Environment Agency and the Berat-Elbasan-Korçe Regional Environment Agency about the amounts of generation of all waste and their sale.

4. A është mbyllur Kurum dhe cila është arsyeja e mbylljes së dy fabrikave brenda Kurum?

Kompania jonë ka mbyllur përkohësisht vetëm aktivitetin prodhues, ndërkohe që aktivitetet e tjera të kompanisë vazhdojnë normalisht. Arsyeja e mbylljes së Fabrikës së Petëzimit është vazhdimi i rinovimit teknologjik të procesit te prodhimit, për të rritur efiçencën e tij dhe uljen e kostove të prodhimit. Ndërsa Fabrika e Çelikut është mbyllur si pasojë zgjatjes në kohë të situatës se jo-produktive dhe jo kosto-efiçente, rrjedhojë kjo e disa faktorëve ndërkombëtare, situatës ekonomike globale në tërësi, dhe situatës së industrisë së rëndë dhe industrisë se çelikut në veçanti. 5. Is Kurum in negotiations for the sale of the activity to any Chinese company?

The Kurum company is not in negotiations for the sale of the activity either to any Chinese company, or to any other local or foreign company.
