Judicial authorities in Paros, Greece, are trying to uncover the causes of the death of a five-month-old baby, for which there is so far no clear explanation.
The incident took place on Parasporos beach, where the baby stayed in the sun for several hours. According to the Albanian father, the baby was in the sun for about two hours, while the mother, also Albanian, claims that they stayed from morning until noon.
Two key moments were highlighted during the investigation. The first is the period when the mother was alone with the baby in the car, which was also exposed to high temperatures and had similarities to an oven. In her testimony, the mother stated:
“We went in the morning with my husband and our children. We stayed in the sun the whole time. The baby started crying and I decided to take her to the car, which was parked in the sun. I stayed there for half an hour and then told my husband that the baby was crying non-stop, it was not good and we had to leave. We left at 3:00 PM for home.”
For his part, the father claims that the mother was only absent for 10-15 minutes and he does not know what happened during that time.
The second important moment is the period when the mother was left alone with the baby at home from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, when she transported the now lifeless baby to the Paros Health Center.
“Shortly after arriving home, my husband and son went to the beach again. After an hour and a half or two hours, I realized that something was wrong with the baby. I wrapped him in a blanket and took him to the Paros Health Center. When I arrived, I told the doctor that the baby was not breathing. I don’t know what happened.”
The mother has been in a state of shock since Sunday afternoon and has not given details about the crucial hours she spent alone with the baby, Greek media report .
Forensic doctors are investigating not only complications from sunstroke, but the possibility of swallowing a foreign body, while the scenario of a criminal act has been ruled out.
The father and other family members are in Paro trying to cope with the tragic loss, while the mother is expected to give explanations in court regarding the baby's death.
