“Defender Europe 2025” in Albania! Durrës is “invaded” by warships, helicopters and drones! Views from the military exercise at sea

Today, the Bay of Durrës turned into a real scene of military maneuvers, where Albanian, regional and American forces are conducting one of the most important international exercises, "Defender Europe 2025".

In a complex scenario, Durrës was "invaded" by warships, Cougar helicopters and a surveillance drone, which participated in the simulation of a sophisticated naval intervention operation.

At the heart of the demonstration was a simulated incident, where Albanian and American naval forces intervened against a ship suspected of leaving territorial waters without permission.

On board the Albanian ship "Oriku", media representatives closely followed the coordination of the actions of the 5 participating ships, 3 Albanian and 2 American, in a scenario that took place about 6 miles off the coast.

Every move served to test response capacity and international cooperation.

The Naval Force Commander announced that such exercises are held every two years and “Defender Europe” is led by the US Naval Command for Europe and Africa. The aim of the exercise is to strengthen the ability of NATO forces to operate in real conditions, using air, land and sea channels to protect strategic lines of communication and critical infrastructure.

In this regard, Albania's role is key. In addition to protecting maritime routes and important objectives such as the TAP gas pipeline or underwater communication systems, the focus is also on the security of port infrastructure.

American special forces are also present in this joint mission.

The exercise, which is based on Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, demonstrates a shared commitment to collective defense in the event of an attack on a member country.

In this context, "Defender Europe 2025" is an exercise that aims to demonstrate the alliance's readiness and strength in defending peace and security in the region.

In addition to Albania, Kosovo is also part of the exercise that lasts until June 9.
