1881 cannabis seedlings destroyed in Mallakastër, two people arrested, caught watering narcotic plants

A parcel of cannabis has been discovered in Mallakastër by the Fier Police.

The operation codenamed 'Coordinates' led to the destruction of 1,881 cannabis sativa narcotic seedlings in the village of Çërrila.

The 2 suspected perpetrators were arrested while they were watering the drugs in the plot, while the village headman and 1 other person suspected of being involved in this criminal activity were criminally prosecuted.

The arrested are Arben Sulo, 53 years old, and Elidon Shehaj, 34 years old.

"During the checks, in the village of Çërrilë, the services of the Mallakastër Police Commissariat found a plot with 1881 suspected cannabis sativa seedlings. During the intervention by the Police services, in the plot, citizens AS, 53 years old, resident of Greshicë and E. Sh., 34 years old, resident of Çërrilë, were caught red-handed watering the narcotic seedlings, who were arrested for the criminal offense of "cultivation of narcotic plants". In connection with this case, the village headman, citizen IS, 63 years old, was criminally prosecuted for the criminal offense of "abuse of office", the local police announced.

Also, following the investigative actions, criminal proceedings were initiated against MZ, 44 years old, resident of Ballsh, where during the search of his apartment, a sporting weapon, 12,400 euros, 400 pounds and around 900,000 new lek were found, which were suspected to be in function of this criminal activity.

"The narcotic plants were destroyed by burning. Work continues to fully document this criminal activity, as well as to identify and apprehend other citizens who may be involved," the police explained.
