Barcelona "copies" Real, Catalan media explodes with accusations against the referee of the semi-final with Inter: Madridista Marciniak
Tensions ahead of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Inter Milan have reached a peak in Spain, with Catalan media outlets lashing out at the match's referee, Polish Szymon Marciniak.
According to the newspapers Sport and Mundo Deportivo, Marciniak has been harshly described as a "Madridist", a label that - according to them - calls into question his impartiality in Tuesday's match.
The two largest sports media in Catalonia have not spared critical tones, considering the Polish referee as biased, in favor of Real Madrid and consequently against the interests of Barcelona.
The reason for this reaction was several previous episodes that, according to them, show a tendency on Marciniak's part to favor "Los Blancos".
Among them is a photo of the referee with a handbag bearing the Real Madrid emblem, as well as several disputed decisions in matches where he has refereed this team - such as an uncontested penalty for Julian Alvarez in the Atletico-Real clash, or a questionable tackle in the case of De Ligt in the Real-Bayern match last season.
For the Catalans, this is no longer just a complaint, but an "international conspiracy" driven by intersecting sporting passions.
With this heated atmosphere and the accusations that precede the match, it seems that the tension between Barcelona and Real Madrid continues to affect even challenges that in theory do not directly involve them.
