Banning of Big Brother VIP Kosova is requested, due to the story of Drenusha

The Network of Women Journalists of Kosovo has submitted a complaint/request to the KPM regarding the concern for the problematic content of the Big Brother VIP program, broadcast by Klan Kosova.

"In the name of protecting the rights of participants and promoting ethical standards in television content, we, the Network of Women Journalists of Kosovo, are addressing you to express our deep concern regarding a recent situation in the Big Brother VIP program , broadcast by Klan Kosova" , says their reaction.

One of the participants of this program is a survivor of domestic violence and has made a public denunciation of her case. However, despite this denunciation, her ex-husband has entered the Big Brother house, putting her in a situation where she has to live 24/7 in close proximity to the person who abused her.

" Klan Kosova's decision to allow such a confrontation in this media format creates a dangerous precedent for human rights and promotes violence as a form of spectacle, which is an unacceptable, harmful and reprehensible practice in any society" , says their request.

According to them, the Independent Media Commission has the right to immediately stop broadcasting a program if it considers that it poses a risk to public safety, morality, public order, or to the protection of the rights of others.

"This circumstance is deeply disturbing, as it exposes the survivor to a precarious situation and can lead to further trauma, sending a dangerous message to the public and normalizing violence in intimate and family relationships. In patriarchal societies like ours, where violence is often seen as a private matter, this development only reinforces this perception."

Considering the importance of human rights and the right to a safe environment for every participant, we request that the Independent Media Commission immediately stop broadcasting Big Brother VIP Kosovo until the person accused of domestic violence leaves this television format.

Adherence to the code of ethics is essential to ensure that television programs in Kosovo provide responsible content that respects the rights and well-being of individuals, especially survivors of violence.

In conclusion, we emphasize that survivors of violence deserve protection and continuous support. We believe that the protection of their rights and the promotion of responsible content are benefits for the whole society, beyond the logic of profit. We expect the Independent Media Commission to take measures to examine this case seriously and to supervise the respect of professional ethics in this program and in any other television content, especially in cases involving violence.

This program constantly promotes examples of violence, sexual harassment and extremely sexist and homophobic discourses, negatively influencing society and reinforcing harmful stereotypes. After the departure of the person in question, it is essential that this television format is carefully monitored and reviewed in accordance with ethical standards to ensure that the content provided is educational and respectful to all groups in society.

We hope that this request will be handled urgently by you, concludes their request, writes Index online.
