Maria Kovalchuk is a Ukrainian model who turned 20 this month. The young woman, who had been missing for 10 days, was found dumped on the side of a road in Dubai with serious injuries.

Foreign media write that Maria was last seen on March 9, when she told friends that she was going to a party at a hotel with two men who introduced themselves as representatives of the fashion industry.

The 20-year-old informed her mother, Anna, that she would be staying with them overnight, but there was no further news of her.

The model had booked a flight to Thailand on March 11, but she did not show up at the airport. Her worried family and friends notified authorities, who launched an investigation and search for her.

On March 19, Maria was found bleeding and beaten on a street in Dubai, with fractures to her spine and limbs. She was rushed to hospital, where she underwent three life-saving surgeries, followed by a fourth procedure. She is currently in critical condition and unable to speak.

 "It is assumed that she went to a party, but the organizer did not see her there. Maria was found in the hospital in serious condition, without documents, without a phone, and cannot speak," her mother told Ukrainian media.

Meanwhile, her friend, Russian model Angelina Doroshenkova, who was with Marian in Dubai and had been invited to the same party, decided to return to Russia a few days ago.

Maria, who comes from the city of Lviv in Western Ukraine, is also known as an anti-war activist and has taken part in a solidarity event for Russian sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky, who was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of "justifying terrorism."
