Skeleton suspected of belonging to d'Artagnan discovered in Maastricht

A skeleton that may belong to d'Artagnan, the French soldier who inspired the famous novel "The Three Musketeers," has been discovered in a church in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

The discovery was made during work to repair a section of the floor that had partially collapsed in a modern church, the foundations of which date back to at least the 13th century.

d'Artagnan, musketeer to kings Louis XIII and Louis XIV, served the French crown for years and became the inspiration for the hero created by Alexandre Dumas in the 19th century.

He was killed during the "Maastricht Massacre" in 1673, and the location of his grave remains a mystery to this day.

Experts are expected to conduct further analysis to confirm whether the remains truly belong to the historical figure who became a symbol of literature and popular culture.
