An ultra-luxurious bathhouse has been discovered as part of a major excavation in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. It's a once-in-a-century discovery. Archaeologists uncovered the ultra-luxurious private bathhouse - possibly the largest ever found there - with hammam-style spaces, exquisite artwork and a large swimming pool.

The bath is part of a luxurious residence that was discovered in the last two years and dates back up to 2000 years. Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, who discovered the bath, said that these places are part of the Pompeii phenomenon and it looks as if people had left just a minute ago.

Pompeii was one of the most beautiful cities of the Roman Empire. The climate was mild and its soil fertile. Many houses had a view of the sea. The city spread over 60 hectares, had eight gates and eleven watchtowers for the safety of the citizens.

Pompeii also had opulent homes and many wealthy citizens who spent their time in luxurious baths and swimming pools. The wealthy citizens of Pompeii had luxurious palaces, with colonnades in the courtyards, elaborate mosaics on the floors, and impressive frescoes and wall paintings.
